It has been an exciting school year for young residents of Lakes of Bella Terra, as two new schools have opened their doors for the first time this Fall semester. Students of Leaman Jr. High School and Fulshear High School will be part of building a legacy for years to come.
To honor these two new schools, a dedication ceremony was held at Fulshear High School on December 2nd, commemorating the individuals that the two schools were named after and their contribution to the greater Richmond area.
Leaman Jr. High School was named after Dean Leaman, a dedicated and involved member of the community who worked tirelessly to make the city flourish by helping to establish educational systems. Leaman founded the St. Marks Episcopal Church in Rosenberg, served on the boards of Polly Ryon Hospital and the George Foundation as well as the Roseberg Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce.
Dean Leaman Junior High opened in August 2016 under the mission to carry on Dean Leaman’s legacy of hard work, kindness, generosity and public service.
Fulshear High School was named after Churchill Fulshear, Jr., a soldier of the Texas War for Independence and a member of one of the original 300 families to settle in Texas. Fulshear was a generous landowner who donated land to allow railroad service throughout the area. The high school mascot, The Chargers, is a representation of his love for horses and a symbol of the Churchill Downs Race Track.
The high school is proud to be named after his legacy. Fulshear High school opened in August 2016 with freshman and sophomore classes, and will grow to add a grade level each year, with the Class of 2019 to be the first graduating class.
The ceremony included music by the high school’s talented choir and band, and tours were given of the schools, boasting the new amenities, sports fields, classrooms and top of the line facilities.
