When young junior high students of Lakes of Bella Terra move into their new home and community, they will also enroll in a brand new state-of-the-art school. Leaman Junior High has opened their doors to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students for the first time this 2016-2017 school year.
Students at Leaman Junior High have opportunities to take honors and pre-AP classes and participate in a range of activities. The campus includes five computer labs, five laptop carts, three iPad cart and a spacious band hall with practice rooms and music libraries. A full range of athletic programs is offered, including football, volleyball, basketball, track, and tennis. Students can also choose from journalism, yearbook or any number of creative activities
Students at Leaman Junior High and Fulshear High School will identify as unified campuses with the same mascot and school colors. By popular vote, the “Chargers” is the mascot for the new schools with the colors purple and black.
Mike Semmler will be the first Principal at Leaman Junior High. During his career he has served as Principal at Briscoe Junior High School and as Assistant Principal at both Briscoe Junior High and Foster High School.
Leaman Junior High was named after Dean Leaman, a civic leader in Richmond and Rosenberg and the owner of Allied Concrete. He served as president of the Rosenberg-Richmond Chamber of Commerce and was instrumental in bringing Wharton County Junior College and the Texas State Technical Institute to the area.
Located off of FM 1093, seven miles west of Lakes of Bella Terra, Leaman Junior High sits next to the new Fulshear High School.
Schools in Lamar CISD are designed with smaller enrollments (high schools are capped at 2,000 students) to provide more opportunities for students. Lamar CISD is one of only 44 school systems in the entire state to achieve the 5-Star rating, indicating strong academic progress and low spending.
Leaman Junior High will host an open house at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 12.
